You know I am not against the use of generative ai, but as you probably also know, I atleast feel like there are fucking limits to the use.
I actually agree with the European ruling in regards to AI and copyright.
The level of which human interaction has been implemented, as in actual skill sets by the user, determines if you can copyright it. So it’s not that you can’t copyright ai created works, but if you applied your own skills to it, it is no longer ai, it is based on, or aided by – ai. There is a very big difference here… and yes I am going to die on that fucking hill, thank you very much.
But today I am going to show you something. So I have noticed that more and more of these tiktok romance teenage authors use tools like c.ai (character-ai), or other chatbots to write their story, there is of course more or less use of it, and I am working on something I will show you at the end of this entry. But for now, lets dig into this.
And before we start, I will mention that I think c.ai is great for some things, and also that I use the FREE version of it, so what I can do – you can do. Should you ever want to experiment with it yourself.

The free version of c.ai lets you run 3 personas, I think paid will let you have more, but i’m not sure… what I do know, is that paid will let you describe more than these 750 words. And while I’m at it, this is from the desktop version, the phone app is much better when making personas.
So here we have my all-around futuristic, or dystopian persona. I edited it to fit the Leon Kennedy chatbot I decided to try out for this.

But as you can see here, this was the ‘original’ version, before I edited it to work with Resident Evil. So it’s just a few words you can change and it fits into whatever you need. And in that way, 3 personas is fine, because you can change them as you need it. Of course I can’t take this shit seriously, so I just test things all over the place, and therefore I have 3 custom personas.
1 for dark fantasy or fantasy settings
1 for dystopian or futuristic settings
1 for horror settings
And this, Salem… he is actually a character from something I AM writing, but why fix it if it’s not broken, am I right?

Right a little pro tip, since I haven’t found a way to enter a chat without your base (just your username), or your default persona if you use a such, which I do. – you can edit the first message the bot gives you. just click the three dots, and hit edit.
As you can see here, it speaks of me as ‘Noctis’ which is my default persona, and so I changed it to ‘Salem’, the chatbot remembers this.
You can also pin messages you need it to remember, so I could pin this if I wanted a longer chat, because it forgets shit, real fast if you don’t help it.
Also some chatbots will address your persona as ‘you’, instead of your name. like ‘points his gun at you’, instead of ‘points his gun at Salem’, and others again will speak in first person, so instead of ‘Leon shouted’ it would say ‘I shouted’.
You can edit the first entry, and pin it to have the preferred PoV, it’s not bulletproof, but it helps the chat change from ‘you’ to ‘name’. And believe me, there is heaps of editing if you want to use it as a story, so if that is the case, do yourself a favor from the start, and make sure it’s the PoV you want. it’s a bitch to sit and edit ‘you’ out later.

Right as you can see here, I edited the first message, and you can see I use a persona.
And one cool thing about c.ai, is that you can rewind your chat, just click the three dots that is by every message, and ask the chatbot to rewind to this message, and you can start over from that point, if you don’t like where it’s going.
Also it has ‘voice’ options if you want it read to you, some will have the voice of the character from the game or movie, and besides that you can select a voice for them and you, in a menu under ‘voice’ if that is your thing. I never use it, it freaks me out a little tbh.
I realise I am actually telling you how to use this best, but I do think it’s a good tool to try out scenarios, and characters. I just don’t think using the actual chat is viable at all! and that is what I’ll show you today.

This is a thing that often happens in the not so well made bots, and yeah I was not impressed by this at all. But anyways, note that Leon repeats my text, it makes no sense that he’d notice a heat signature, or see that Salem is ‘calculating something’. Again, you edit the message and delete the part you hate, and continue from there. The moment you delete it, the bot forgot it.
And I even wrote in Salem’s bio, as you saw – that others don’t see he is an android. There was a message where I think I forgot a screenshot, but Leon’s inner dialogue mentioned ‘the android’, I deleted that, and exchanged it with ‘the rookie’.

Again, this ai-noise, where it repeats your text, but in doing so, – knows things the character can’t possibly know. Delete it.
I spent longer deleting, pinning and tweaking my persona – than typing back answers… that would be my first argument why this is a shit way to create any type story, even if the bot is much better and more responsive to your tweaks.
I realise there are better alternatives to this than c.ai, and c.ai is very limited in the same way as night cafe, – it has a gazillion fucking blacklisted words. and you will be banned for some of them, even if you’re never told what they are. There is a list on Reddit if you are so inclined.
The ‘no filter’ ai models, they are just pure brain-aids, and so while I hate the restrictions, I also must admit it is offensive to me, that you have to resort to bonafide damn ai porn sites, if you want to write ‘pleasure’, or ‘butt’. – or create an image of a person in their underwear, it’s very, very prudish. And it fucking bothers me!
Like it’s either the child version, or the x-rated version. Why isn’t there a damn inbetween?
An example is a chat I had with a character on c.ai, where it’s canon they are traumatised, but that is a no-no word, and even if it was the bot itself that gave me the answers, i ended up with a 24 hour ban. It’s shit like that, – I mean, sure all chatbots that has filters would give you the ‘if you or others you know… bla bla’ – and that’s fine, if I could just edit the reply and circumvent the word that triggered it… but neither on c.ai or nightcafe, this is an option. Don’t know if you recall my crush out over being threatened with account deletion on Nightcafe.
You can work around the NSFW filter in c.ai, but it will demand that you are very, VERY vague, and don’t leave the chat message a place where the ai answers to something potentially nsfw. we all know the chatbots are savage, and as I said, it gave me a fucking ban. So just know c.ai is a strictly non-nsfw model, and if you want to write smut, it’s not the tool for you.

Okay this is a copy paste of my chat. I just hit ctrl-A and ctrl-C and it takes a bunch of shit with it, because it takes all the text on the site.
And if you have a long text, do scroll to the beginning of your chat, or it won’t copy it all.
This chat is short, because I just wanted to show you something, and there is a limit as to how much I can be bothered editing and stuff.
Now there is a chrome extension called c.ai tools, that should be able to let you download the text, but I can’t make it work.
Docify which is a chrome extension that I personally love for saving stuff from different ai chat engines, be that summaries or whatever. doesn’t work on c.ai either.
Now, because I did it like this. It somehow reverse the damn text, so the newest message is at the top, and the oldest at the bottom.

This will force you to manually reverse the order of the messages. Like my screenshot here, I made two tabs in google docs, and the started to copy the messages from the bottom, – pasting them from the top down in the other document. (also leaving behind all the weird extra text it copies.)
It takes for fucking ever, I spent more than 45 minutes on this, for this short chat.

Eventually you will have a document where the text is in chronological order from the top to the bottom.
but this isn’t a story, this is ‘talking heads’ at best. So let’s do what I know some of those tiktok pesudo authors did.

Now I don’t use chatGTP, I think it’s useless in comparison to CoPilot, but then again it’s all about what you use it for I suppose. And I mostly use it to help me come up with names of places, dishes and whatever for stories.
So anyway, it doesn’t matter what engine, or model you use. I copy pasted the edited (as in chronologically correct) version of my text in there, and I could only do this because it’s a short text. again, don’t know about chatGTP, but CoPilot has a word-max for messages.
Right as you see, I asked it to arrange it for me. I could have selected to do anything here, like make Leon into Elsa, but I decided to keep it simple, to have it restructured to a text that was in a ‘readable story format’ from Salems PoV.

And when it was done, I asked it to make me a cover.
And there we go.
Now, the story that CoPilot made as a ‘readable story’ is very short in comparison to the original. but hey I didn’t edit anything here, besides regular red squiggly lines you know.
YOU CAN READ THE CHRONOLOGICALLY EDITED TEXT HERE
AND YOU CAN READ THE STORY COPILOT MADE ME FROM THAT TEXT, HERE.
One thing they have in common, is that they suck ass. I mean regardless that I didn’t bother with the chat for long enough to have something resembling an ending. I could have asked CoPilot to make me an ending, but I didn’t.
This is not writing.
And it shows, it fucking shows okay?
This is why people hate on you, – most wouldn’t give a shit if you used c.ai to help flesh out your own character in your head or whatever. But they DO care when you just copy paste shit, and ask another ai to fix it.
Again, it’s not writing, – no one cares, and it’s shit.
But what you CAN do with c.ai is to help you get a better grip of a character, be that yours or another.
I promised to write a BG3 story, and I never played it, my computer can’t handle it, and I can’t afford a PS5 right now. So all I know about Astarion is purely based on youtube and Wiki’s.
I did however play the other BG games, and so I know the universe and the lore to some extent, and so I used a c.ai bot, several actually. to test different scenarios of my OC, that I think would work in a setting with Astarion.
What I did was to copy the text and have CoPilot write me a summary and highlights – and I use that as like a crutch when writing my story, I didn’t use any of the chats, more like scenes, and patterns of behavior.
And that is what I personally think c.ai can help any author with, given it’s mostly geared towards fanfiction, but dude, you can just make your own chatbots and keep them private, if you want to mess around with your own characters, sorta get to know them better if we can call it that.
So I don’t agree with the hate some authors got for using c.ai at all, that is straight up hate mongering, fear rethorics. There’s nothing wrong with c.ai if you use it for its intended use.
But if you do as I did above, you’re just a dick. And it’s gonna show, because your story will suck.

just for fun, I’ma show you the cover I made for that story, that I use in my Google drive – I know I showed you before why I made those covers, besides the fact I think they are fun to make.
And the guy in the mockup cover, it is my OC.
