So I asked ChatGPT to make me five prompts for a creepypasta, you can see them here.

As you can see I made no rules besides ‘gothic’ and that was mostly to avoid getting 5 slenderman clone answers. I decided to go with the fifth, for no other reason than who doesn’t love a cursed book?

So for this to be fair, I didn’t hold myself to the prompt, just as I set the AI writing prompter to ‘creative writing’, allowing it to stray from the command.

I wanted to prove why something written by an AI and something written by a person is perhaps the same, but it’s not. And why using AI in your creative process doesn’t make you the devil. Like I used this prompt, right?

Let’s talk about the pure AI text first:

Of course I have to get slightly involved, but I kept it to an absolutely minimum, just as the text and the image is made on the same site.

First of all I found a free site, https://aifreebox.com/ I actually never heard of before, but then again – I don’t really use what they offer. What I could get there was a pretty crude, but free (no need to fill in lore and use tokens like on novel.ai and so many other sites like it – its a fucking opportunist market, what can I say?) Aifreebox let me have as many turns of ‘continue text’ as I wanted to.

Here you can see I pasted the prompt from chatGTP in there, because that was what we need. I set it to creative, and left the slider in the middle, and hit ‘generate’.

Now I will say that aifreebox lets you download the generated text as a txt file without any problems, but you can also just copy it,- which I did, and pasted it into a txt file. Then I took the last paragraph of the text just given to me, copy pasted it into the content prompt, and hit generate. I did this around five times, and as you will hear, the story tries to end like five times. And that is one of the pitfalls with ai writing, it’s not made for longer and more complex scenarios, at least not when it’s free.

And dude, I set out to make slob, like I am accused of – this is why it’s a free program. (besides that I’d never pay for something like that in my life)

I circled the style, on this image you can see it’s formal, I did change that before I continued to creative, so the story would fit in tone. And a little pro tip, the more you move the slider right, the more freedom the ai have, but the shorter your text output is. And dude I was NOT about to sit there and do paragraphs of like 400 words at a time.

The AI story is shorter than my own story, and I tried, I promise you. I didn’t read any of the text as I made it, figured that was a part of making slob, that I don’t care, and just let the AI take the wheel. But I did notice the end paragraphs that I copied, and when it sort of hit ‘and then they lived happily ever after’ I figured the ai was done with my nonsense, and let it end.

The text have a narration – and for my own sanity I used the same voice from the same program – I simply couldn’t deal with the TTS they had on aifreebox, it sounded like Stephen Hawkins (not sorry). So that was a little cheating, I know – but I’d like to make it out of this with my sanity.

I used the text to image option they had, and they showcased like 6 different ‘categories’ but they were more guiding than anything, because you could just remove the suggested ‘themed’ prompt and add your own. But I chose ‘mysterious’ and added the text you see there on the image, it’s from the text itself. For science I made two images, just so I had something to chose from.

I also used aifreebox’s option for a title generator, cause the story needed a title, and because I am a slob, I just pasted the text I had already copied for the images from the story – into that generator and it gave me this title.

So I pulled the image into befunky, and this is where I sort of had to get a little involved, so while I didn’t edit the image at all, I did resize it to fit a youtube banner, and also I added the title of the story to the banner, and I admit while I didn’t spend a lot of time on it, trying to stay true to the slob concept, I did select this combo particularly, and tested a couple that didn’t work. Again, I want to make it out of this with my sanity intact.

Now the video…

As I said, I did use a voice that I paid for, and that doesn’t drive me insane – personally… it might annoy the fuck out of you, but that is just not my problem.

So I made both narration videos in Canva, but because Canva is pretty limited when it comes to plural tracks of a video, what I did was to pull them both into Clipchamp. Here I could import the video with the image and the narration, and add music. So it’s a boldface lie when I claim the piano music is from Canva, it’s not – it’s a free track from clipchamp.. and I don’t pay for clipchamp, so I have no access to the paid features there anyway.

Now if you read it, or listen to it – I am dead sure you’ll pretty fast both zone out, and go ‘what?’ – because nothing happens, absolutely fucking nothing. There is NO action whatsoever in this story… what we do have are a million very grandiose and over the top metaphors and synonyms – and I triple dog dare you to listen to this, and drink ‘thesaurus’.

Like this… what does that even mean?

There is a whole lot of crackling air, swirling smoke, pulsing, and let’s not forget the weaving… unreasonable amount of weaving, don’t ask.

My point is the language is so over the top that you don’t even understand what’s going on, and I can tell you again – nothing is what’s going on. If I were to give a quick summary, it’d go like this.

“you enter a nondescript place, and step closer for a very long time, while you work your way through an entire thesaurus, you finally declare you are here to mend the souls and time, probably because you ran out of words in the thesaurus. The end.”

Don’t believe me? give it a listen and return to me. it’s horseshit, and you know why it’s horseshit? Because this is raw text from an ai, an ai is not ‘intelligent’, it’s an algorithm which bases it’s next outcome on what is learned, and what is entered. So when I enter a prompt, it gives me a text out from the prompt, and it remembers that text, so when I do it again – it continues in the same tone, thinking it’s what I want… consistency, no matter how creative i ask it to be, it can’t.. it’s an algorithm for fucks sake.

this is why nothing happens.

And those ai builds that CAN do creative writing, because they do exist – like Sudowrite, and Novel.ai – there you, the person, have to set it up to remember specific stuff, and tweak it to write like you want it to… because the ai is an algorithm. It can’t do shit without someone telling it what to do, just like the computer I am sitting at now.

And now, let’s talk about my text.

So there’s no need to repeat myself too much here, I used the same prompt as the ai, even if I thought it was sorta dumb, and decided to just go along with the cursed book that whispered. I wasn’t quite sure how to make that work, but something just had to present itself. I’d hate to lose to an ai, who describes shit with ‘cracking’ and ‘weaving’.

I wrote my text in google docs, I just didn’t take a screenshot – this is from outwrite, because I DID use outwrite to weed out weird grammar, and fix some sentences I couldn’t get to work. Just like i’d do any other writing project I do.

As you can see here, Aurora was called Ester, but that is something I often do – I give people a placeholder name… like I have a character in one of the novels not done yet, named Etienne. I am not about to sit there and type Etienne over and over, so I named him Egon or something like that, and will just replace Egon with Etienne in editing – that way I only have to write it once. And I won’t have Etienne spelled in eight different ways either.

Anyways, I did use https://www.fantasynamegenerators.com/ to find some names that would work. And well the reason why Ester had to give up her name was because Ester and Eric was too close, and for some reason no matter what I tried to call him, it came off as weird or edgy. So Ester became Aurora.

I admit I had a midway crisis, because when Eric came into my story, demanding the book, I had to find out why. I played around with Sumerian demons, and Necronomicon like tomes and whatever. But it all boiled down to the fact that it seemingly had just manifested itself in their home.

I mean I really shouldn’t spoil it all in this entry, but I do have to say – I needed a reason for the book to be there, and decided to go the semi SCP way. And the moment I decided that Eric and the book, or the person and the object, in fact was one and the same SCP it all came easy.

Now the video was made the same way as the ai one, apart from one thing. I had already edited the images in befunky when I imported them to Canva.

And unlike the slob story, I went through many different versions and expressions of the narrator (who looks suspiciously much like a young, thin version of myself).

These images are all made in https://creator.nightcafe.studio/, and I had all these through befunky to edit and decide which I liked the best. I do actually like them all in each their own way, but since I knew I’d be making the music for the video too, I took one out to be the narration banner, and another to be the music video banner.

This is the background track, it is made in Suno, but it sounded awful, I mean terrible – some weird high notes that sounded like the quality of my walkman in 1985. So I made a crude edit in audacity, and then again in clipchamp. And this is the result. I can hear that little extra keystroke between the segments I stitched, but when you have narration over it, it doesn’t matter. This is uploaded to my music youtube in case you’d like to use it too.

Real quick then I have this channel where I upload royalty free, edited ai music. I make this for creators, regardless of their outlet, be that games, videos or whatever the fuck you can use music for. I have a bunch of weird stuff up there, but it’s pretty organized and easy to find what you need, if I even have what you need. And just like with everything else, I got better at this over time, so my old tracks are pretty bad.

I chose to be very, VERY obvious with the ai stuff, because I can’t be arsed with the negativity. Don’t like it, you can fuck right off. I mean I saw someone on reddit the other day complaining about no growth to his channel, I checked and even the fucking about section was written with ai, come on no one forgets to remove ‘your name’ in your blurb.

Do you recognize the thesaurus speek? and also who talks about themselves in third person? And no one in their right mind would claim they ‘crafts immersive compositions that transport listeners to vivid emotional landscapes’ – bro… you have 500 subs… I don’t know how well you resonate across the globe.

I think you should see this yourself, yeah I know, I’m a bitch – but I don’t believe this is not ai for a second, if you check his soundcloud (cause I did) he is named DJBecker, and made fucking goa trance just a year ago on there – and to say he is an emotional musician is perhaps stretching it a little thin. His insta have images of organs (the musical ones) – but you know what? none of his posts (sans the goa trance) are older than 1 year. Bro, you make ai music, even your damn thumbnails are ai, just how dumb do you think people are?

Given he could be a musical genius, what do I know? able to switch from free techno raves on a football field, to royal arena.. Also everything sounds good when you’re high as fuck, just sayin.

And it’s people like him, that makes me very explicit in my own expression, namely making sure people are very aware that this is edited ai.

Sorry that was a side tangent…

I just want to end this with saying that I decided to bite this post over in two, so the other half about my grievances with r/nosleep in regards to my own story, I will have give you tomorrow.

So for now, I am most curious if you can notice the difference between something written by an ai, and something written by a person. And how it looks and feels when effort was put into it, and custom things were made – contra shove a prompt into a catch all site.
