So back in september I tried out a month trial for a recording program named Movavi, and it could both record my screen and my games, which was great you know? I was still fooling around with how to make ‘what we know’ as a TTS (ai voiced) podcast.
Anyways, I tried this 1 month for like 49dkk ($7), and then I got an email reminded me to renew my sub, then I went to my paypal and deactivated my recurring payment and thought I had made sure that they couldn’t withdraw. And also I set it to pay that monthly, and I figured (like I did this many times before) that by telling my bank (or paypal) to not pay next month or ever again, my sub will just end.
Yeah that was not what happenend.
as you can see here I paid from September to February without me knowing, because I thought I had cancelled my sub.. and YES that is on me, but as I told you I thought I cancelled, and so moved the email sender to my ‘forums’ folder in my inbox, and I don’t have to deal with the flurry of spam mails with ‘are you sure you want to leave, here have this, and this deal’ because firms like this they badger you to no end when you end your sub after a trial period.
Had I not moved it to that folder I might have noticed I got several emails with the wording ‘your subscription is ending *date*’ – See I thought this email back in October meant that I had successfully cancelled my subscription after the trial period because the mail is seriously worded like this. But had I seen I got an email with the same wording in November, I would have gotten suspicious for sure – and while I originally read that mail as ‘your sub is ending’, it just means ‘this period ends’.
And might I mention that the subscription went from 49dkk ($7) to 79dkk ($11) from October.
So I’m not going to bore you too much. But when you go to Movavi.com it’s not exactly easy to figure out where the hell you log in… but yeah that little weird icon is where you log in – the page however really, really want to sell you all kinds of shit.
Alright when you log in, this is what you get – idk man, is it just me or this the worst fucking interface you ever saw? Okay so I clicked my subscriptions and there was nothing, I didn’t have any programs either (mind you I still had an active subscription to their screen recorder, shouldn’t that, and also my billing history kinda show up here?)
What you have to do, is to click this tiny link – not the big button that takes you to the shop to buy more of there fucking crap… no this tiny link that will take you to your personal info.
And here is where you’re sent to a Verifone page, and honestly that is why I even noticed these payments on my paypal, because Verifone is American – And I am not. So there’s no way I can have a Verifone account, and there is no reason why I should pay any money to Verifone – And in my defence Movavi changed payment company so when I last dealt with this, it was not Verifone that was listed on my payment history.
So if you click ‘billing’, you get this – as you can see I used paypal to pay them.
Now thing is you can’t click the red box which says ‘confirm cancellation’ – you can only click ‘discard’ to close the window – or you can click that tiny link in the popup, the tiny blue lined text, to get an email in order to continue the cancellation.
So I clicked the link and got this email, there is a link you can click to continue your cancellation, and it also says that this link is only available for an hour. So I clicked that link.
and then we’re taken to this page, and finally I can click ‘cancel automatic renewal’
If you thought we were done, you thought wrong. So when you click ‘cancel automatic renewal’, you get this pop up, but this time you CAN click the red box, which opens a new page (because of course it does)
And finally with the renewal deactivated, I could remove my paypal account from the billing list… and you better believe that I also blocked this payment on my paypal, not that it helped the last damn time, but just in case.

Listen – it’s absolutely ridiculous! One thing is that I am the one who thought I cancelled my subscription, but to make it this complicated to cancel – that should not be legal, I swear.
Do not subscribe to any Movavi solution or product, seriously. They change price without advertising you, and make it stupid difficult to cancel. and seriously it’s not that good – not for the price they want.
