I use too much time on Reddit, I know that. But I decided to show you guys some of what I see; If you think my worry about the bullshit is unfounded let me show you a little something.
Like this, if we start off soft – this was a instagram post where the OP wrote, ‘you’re an artist regardless of skill’, and all the comments were like the one you see in this screenshot. I mean, I know this is from ‘defending ai art’ subreddit, it is not exactly what you think it is, it’s basically just a space where people who make ai stuff can talk freely, which in itself provokes some individuals to no end.
Seriously then it reminds me of you average ‘privileged white dude’ who is used to not being turned away at venues or clubs. And YES that is a fucking thing, it’s not a woke agenda or something, it’s facts. I have seen this too many times, where I turned people away at punk gigs, or seen men freak out because they couldn’t get into a lesbian venue. Like they are so used to all doors being open, they simply can’t deal with one being closed. And if you ask me, they can go anywhere else, like the world is their goddamn oyster; but they just can’t enter right here. And because they can’t – they want it.
That is the feeling I get about this sub reddit. The ones who hate ai, really want to get in there and show everyone their righteous fury, and get upset when they are banned. Because it’s just not the place; this is where people who make ai stuff more or less seriously, can talk to likeminded without being nervous for insane downvotes or bullying.
There are sane people, and sane subs like this. I mean this was like a shitstorm for the ages, but you know what, there are many, many people agreeing with the mods of ‘comics’ – because it really is a question of creativity, but it did mean a mass exodus of ‘true artists’, and it made the general sub a better place for the rest.

Speaking of creativity, this is the sort of vitriol you get for literally nothing. I don’t see the harm in this at all. The OP didn’t say anything offensive if you ask me, they just said there was a place where you could talk about using ai for brainstorming when writing.
And this asshole went straight to KYS territory. And I have seen this type thing many times over, and often the comment will be removed by mods, but the person isn’t banned.
And the signal value here is really something with ‘okay dude you can’t threaten ppls lives, but we get it’. Which is so fucking uncool I can’t even.
Now this is me (just removed my name, not my image) – but seriously I read this post over like ten times, and it makes no fucking sense to me. This has to be the worst case of gaslighting I ever fucking saw. and if you read the other comments you’d know plenty people tried to talk sense to this person, and they were just responding with ‘STRAWMAN ARGUMENT!” – and seriously I am not sure this person even know what a strawman argument is; you can’t claim it’s a strawman argument, when ppl fucking quite you. In order for it to be a strawman argument, ppl have to twist your narrative to their purpose, making you easier to either attack or ridicule.
And I and dead serious, it is the most backwards argument I ever saw. And it might be me, but their manipulation tactics isn’t working, you can’t tell people to be reasonable because they are wrong; and that is basically what they do.
But this… this is what I really wanted to show you. Is this where we are? Authors proof of writing. It will be a cold day in hell before I am going to defend my own writing? Do these people want us to fucking timestamp our documents? it’s madness, it’s fucking madness.
I really, really hope no one does that, even if it’s to get out of a pickle. If I say I wrote this, you believe it or you don’t – but that isn’t my problem now is it?
I didn’t screenshot it, but it was born out of a thread where a bunch of people who are leading a witch hunt on ai books on Amazon… and when I say witch hunt, I mean it, they do not differentiate between books written by an ai, and books with an ai cover or some other minor use of ai tools, like for translation or something.. nope, if one thing is ai, it gotta go.
It’s not enough for these people to boycott books they wrongfully (and sometimes rightfully) believe is ai. No they gotta take them offline.
So this guy, I feel his frustration I really do. And I know how I myself have thought this to myself, like ‘if you’re gonna give me shit, watch me!’ – but it is the wrong fucking thing to say on reddit, and I just hope he doesn’t get too much rl issues with flagging and takedowns.
Oh my sweet summer child, I can tell you’re not a frequent in any authors groups.

And honestly the fear of dogpiling isn’t just something I make up. This post is related the same where ‘the author showed receipts’ screenshot is from, and you know what? turned out this book wasn’t AI because sadly (at least I think it’s fucking sad) this author did show them the book was written by them, not an ai – it doesn’t change the cash grab, copyright infringement.
But the fact that these people does a victory dance, is just disgusting. And while this book might have deserved the negative attention, they are making a breeding ground for some real destructive shit. You can read the summary and comments here.
This is from the ‘horror book’ debate that I linked to further up, and I have to admit that is exactly how this argument comes off to me. Very Marie Antoinette, ‘if the people starve give them cake’ – so fucking up their own ass, I simply don’t have words for how dumb it is to argue that someone ‘should make their own cover’ – like they did my guy; just not in the way you want it.
This is from the same thread, but it’s also one of the stable arguments I see. And it’s true man, it’s the whole ‘see the splinter in your brothers eye’ type deal. And seriously this is why this debate is so fucking toxic, because how I see it; I am being dictated that I am wrong because reasons. And I should prove that I am a real person or whatever the shit.
There is no way, seriously no fucking way, I will do that. The moment you start to defend yourself, you open up for the the possibility there is a reason for your defence. But if you have nothing to hide, there is no need for you to fucking defend yourself, and you shouldn’t. That is giving those assholes what they want, they want you to defend yourself, they want you to be ashamed and feed bad. They’ll still cancel you, but you should feel bad while they do it.
This, man… I feel it! I do the same for the same reason – and I was forced to hide all my videos.
