For starters I will say that those who are very militant anti AI, might find it slightly hypocritical of someone like me, to make this point about art theft and scamming authors and others who commissioned art. But I simply have to say that art theft and ai generated graphics are two very different things, unless you create an ai image to pass it off as a ‘real’ art piece.

But it all started when I looked at my inbox on fanfiction.net just because I could see in my actual email inbox, that I got a pretty mad influx of messages there – dude I haven’t uploaded, updated or written fanfiction in like 10 years. So I was a little puzzled to say the least.

And what I found was this.

So this is a weird message, right? – anyways I have been getting these scam mails om FF.net for years – I checked and I could see the oldest that I didn’t delete is from 2019.

Then I noticed that I had another message from the exact same user, only a couple of days older, so I decided to answer, because I hoped they’d answer just so I could show you guys here.

This is the same person btw, even if they don’t say their name this time. And I answered like any sane, and polite fanfic author would. And I do believe it’s a bot, because seriously no person would send me the almost same message, from the same account a couple of days apart – addressing me as ‘author’ – I had plenty messages about people wanting to do spinoffs and art (okay that sounded kinda like I am flexing, I am not – it’s like 15+ years ago anyone bothered with my writing.) So it is not THAT weird to get a message from someone asking if they can make you art, which is probably also why the scam works.

So – As you can see, they responded, the wording gets weirder in their reply. And they ask for other profiles and my email, then they claim their handles are in their profile, and that they want to explain me something.

Eventually I couldn’t stand it anymore, I had sorta hoped they’d answer, and I had thought about stringing them along (or the bot along) for a while, just to show you – but nah… there are limits.

So if you get one of these mails, do NOT give them your other profiles, and do NOT send them any emails.

This is the profile of the scam account, not only does it not list any actual email, but none of their links work. way that it’s not a real profile.

I took a gander at my messages and found this one

This is a little different, and also by a different profile, but it’s the same shit. Note how they don’t mention what story it is, or mention their name, or my name, or link me to anywhere I can see their other stuff (any real person would do that, believe me).

And then ‘in affordable price’ – I don’t even want to wonder about what the fuck that means. I mean I am aware they are telling me they want me to pay for this nondescript fan art…

And then I got this from Hannah Daniel… or denialhannah01 – this was a bit different in many ways.

It is a bit more elaborate, and have a profile picture, and even took the time to copypaste my name in there. Still not saying their name, or the name of the story they read – but none the less they offer me to ‘discuss how I can work up on your ideas‘.

You know what that sounds like?

poorly scripted ai translated text, that’s what.

Lookit, she’s been around since august, and I couldn’t be arsed to hunt down the other profiles, but that artstation one, that looked weirdly out of place, so I went there.

That artstation link takes us here, and as you can see, she lists her website as the same page as we are on currently, and also that blurb is very clearly chat GTP responding to some prompt like ‘write me a artist blurb’. And at this point I was still kind of sure it was a bot, but the more I found, the more I am convinced it’s not a bot, it’s a person who just don’t give a flying fuck, and throws crap at the walls and sees what sticks.

This profile is so lazy that I refuse to believe anyone with eyes in their head, and two brain cells, can’t see this is not even an ai blurb, it’s a chat bot clarification response. So I am sort of sure their followers, of which she has like a handfull, is probably also their own profiles. That has been seen way too many times before.

And would you notice she claims she is from California in the United States?

When you look at her pretty meager portfolio on Artstation, you note instantly her works differ wildly from each other, and since she states her skills are dnd & furry, plus she works with Abodeillustrator. We know, okay…

So I couldn’t help myself, and started to look a little more around, I am usually pretty good at playing detective when I want to. And so I found their Deviant Art.

What is that – she’s suddenly British? well why not, right? Besides it being the same images here as on Artstation (as in the exact same 5 images) – I noticed something else.

I must admit this makes me think it’s a person who is just very lazy in their lame scam, and as I said; just throwing shit out there and pump it for the gullible few. Sadly you can see here they were reported in september, but their shit is still there, so no – stolen artwork is not taken down, DA don’t give a shit. And someone else here mentions the commission scam… so now we know, this is about money, and not catfishing as I originally thought.

I had to do some reverse image search on some of the images up on their artstation, and I have to say, it took me way too many attempts to find the original artist, and for some of the images I simply never found them. But for those I did, I think it should be mentioned in this post. This one she called ‘concept art’ – is in fact done by someone else.

Which is Aconitte, the girl that commented on their DA. I found this video on TikTok, by the REAL artist – and when I went back and looked, sure – this image is not up on their Deviant art anymore, nor on their insta, just on Artstation. So it seems like Aconitte at least got a little justice after all.

And then there are these.

They are all made by a French artist named Raphaëlle, and not our ‘friend’ Hannah Daniel.

Sadly I couldn’t really find any of the other works on Hanna’s accounts, but I am dead sure they are not hers, it would be argued it’s AI, and there are some things that suggest it might be, and others that does not – and indicates it’s simply theft.

On her instagram, she posted this image (which we also find on Artstation and DA) – and the text is a dead giveaway – this is what it looks like when you ask chat GTP to describe an image for you. It is sometimes a great tool if you do AI graphics, and you need ideas on how to describe something specific, like a creepy playground, you can ask chat GTP to describe an image you upload and you can take some of the description and incorporate in your prompt, for better to guide the result. This is probably extra helpful when you’re not native English speaking, which I am almost sure Hannah isn’t.

It just strikes me as odd it’s this blatant, I mean not only is there two versions of the text, but the AI clearly saw the character as a female – this is so lazy that I don’t know what to say, I mean anyone can tell this is copy paste AI text, and had I not found as much on Hannah that suggest they are a person, I would think it was bot work. Seriously, to scam people you need to be convincing, this is about as convincing as I have a millionaire uncle in Trinidad.

But one thing it DID do, was to convince me I was right, in thinking this had to be someone elses art. And so after some gruelling searches, I did find something.

I found this on DA, and if you look around this persons profile, it’s clear it’s a collection of images of this character by different artists – and they DO credit someone called Akasuki00 for creating it, sadly without a damn link, so I had to go back unto the unsteady waves of Google.

And I did find the artist, but they don’t list this specific image, I will however say I do not doubt they created it, as their art all have a very distinct style.

But I wasn’t quite done yet, all I done so far was to find proof that the art Hannah Daniel claims are theirs, is clearly not.

I went to their twitter, because come on, it’s info they left public in their profile.

And here I found that they wrote something not ai generated in their bio – namely that they are ‘no ai & no nsfw’ content.. And then lists a stolen image from the artist Raphaëlle as their profile pic. And lookit, they are American again.

For a profile that is almost two years old, they don’t interact a whole lot, and they have a total of 17 posts. But that doesn’t prove anything besides someone not being super into the twitter scene. But I know when digging, you gotta look the odd places. and so I did – and all I found was large amounts of messages from that account to others, asking if they wanted them to make them art for a ‘fair price’ – not asking any other questions, like normal artists do.

And then I got all confused.

here we have some answers to a person asking if they know any artists who would take on a commission, they do however not state of what – and the answers I blocked out are all normal responses to a post like that. We have Hannah Daniel with her copy paste answer here – and what do we have here?! We know that name!

Sure when I double checked, it seemed like the same person who wrote me that ‘in affordable price’ message – so I had to look into it… just not their Thumblr, because that sounds scary.

I could look at their instagram and twitter tho. And the more I looked, the more it seems to me that they ARE actually a genuine person, and unlike Hannah, they link from their insta to a linktree. It seems like they conduct most their business from Discord – and they do seem like they have a specific style which makes me more inclined to believe they are real.

However that response on Twitter sounds very odd, and very close to those messages in my ff.net inbox. It could be more than one thing however, because when I google the phrasing – both that, and the messages from my ff.net, it leads me to the same page.

To this site that offers AI assistance for job letters, and such. And I don’t know if it’s because they stole the phrasing off there, or if they used that service to better send out a professional sounding message when driving up commission work – it doesn’t matter, and I am sorry but I simply don’t know enough to make a qualified conclusion.

But one thing I can say, I am pretty sure that Moofa person is real, but I am not sure the ff.net account is theirs – and I still think their twitter answer is weird.

BUT Hannah, I haven’t forgotten about her. So we have seen accounts named (and yes they are spelled like that)

And there are probably more – but honestly I have many names online, and there is nothing dodgy in that – however when it’s rando numbers, and strange spelling mistakes, yes it does get very sus.

Lastly I will say that I live in a part of the world where sale of personal information through third party partners is illegal, which means I can’t email-fu via something like a background check program. Only way I could find out where they ACTUALLY are, would be to mail them with a tracker in the header, and I am not about to email someone like that.

So I don’t know if they are a scammer, but I do know they showcase artwork that is not theirs, and I do know they use AI descriptions. Just look at this one, for shits and giggles.

And I don’t care about the why – what I care about is why someone can do this, even when reported by several people. It’s fucking uncool to pass other peoples art off as yours, and it’s super fucking uncool to scam people into thinking you can create something like it.

I found this post on Reddit, not about our little friend, but about the whole ff.net scam message thing.

and another thread here from Artstation on Reddit.
