I really need to get my shit together, I have had some turbulent years in my personal life, and I don’t know about you (if you write), but I have some conditions that need to be met. One of them is that I need to be able to sit down, and not stress about bills, or work, or housechores (in the extreme).

So I tried a million things, setting up Blogger, setting up Wix – and nothing worked, and in the end I paid for WordPress since I have been using this place for ages, and it does what I need. So this means that in time I can offer a way better online experience than before.

So the project, well I did almost finish the last story, but decided against using it, cause I didn’t feel it fit the others . So even if I think the story is solid, and will save it. Then it was back to the drawing table in regards to the last story of the 6 short stories.

I do have other projects, and I will link to those, but not now.

I love found footage, and I decided to give that a go. And as any author know, we sometimes get a little full of ourselves, and think that the idea we got is the best ever. But is it? So I am curious, and felt like I’d like to hear from you guys.

Found footage the use in a film of footage previously made for another purpose

wikipedia

I realise this says film, but found footage have traditionally been movies, like Blair Witch for instance. But have since migrated to other media, like the written word.

So I found this page that explains what found footage is, in detail, it’s actually pretty interesting and this page does have other genres of found footage included, like mocumentaries, do yourself a favor and check it out. https://foundfootagecritic.com/found-footage-film-genre/

And this is where you come in, cause I know what I think is scary about found footage, and I also know roughly the premis for the story. But I am still curious;

If you saw a blogpost on for instance Reddit, or maybe Facebook, about a strange dissaperance, or maybe a ghost story – which was local to you, and it would take you like twenty minutes to get there. Would you even extend your belief to the point where you entertained the idea?

Or if you bought a thrift store box with an old tapes in, would you listen to them? or an old computer, would you check the files? And what if there was something fantastical and terrifying there, then what?

Why am I asking this? well because found footage lives on the notion that we are willing to believe what we hear, see or read. Even if what we are presented is unbelieveable. For instance let’s just tale Blair Witch as a example, not the first one, not the second one, but the third one. And I don’t even know if you even know of it. But it is awesome – in regards to a universe where logic prevails, this means that the Blair Witch movie, was just a movie, but what if it wasn’t. And one of the characters are the sibling of one of the students that disappeared, and they go to look for them. But not thinking the Blair Witch is real. Or I could use myself as an example, I grew up next to marshland, there are many, many oldwives tales about people drowning in the marsh, it being a sacrificial marsh, and so forth. And people have actually drowned there, probably cause they were drunk, and didn’t notice the path, and wandered into the marsh instead. But how do we know? that is the logical and reasonable explanation. Exept I remember laying in my bed as a kid, and the marsh have a sound, you can hear it, it’s a very destinct hum, that only marshes/wetlands have. So how would I really know? and would I be ready to believe that there are angry anchient spirits on my path to school? – the sort answer is yes, as a kid I did believe that.

And besides the definition of found footage, being something recorded for a different purpose, used in a new context. Then it banks on us to peel away logic, and find that child again, and entertain the posibilities. I mean for instance, I wrote several nosleep stories, and we all know they are fiction. But what if one or two are not? What if ‘that’ story is actually true? and we all think it’s a cool creepypasta. That is what I’m asking of you.

So all of the above into consideration. Would you ever investigate the validity of a recording (written, tape or video) if said recording forced you to question your reality? Would you take it as a fun night out? would you perhaps set out to prove the original recording wrong?
